How can we help?

Answers to what collectors ask most. Settings is the gear on the Trainer tab. Still stuck? Send us a message at the bottom of the page.

Scanning

How do I get a good scan?
  • Lay the card flat on a table and hold your phone flat above it. If you see “Tilt the phone flatter”, level the phone.
  • Find good light, or turn on the flash. Tilt the card away from lamps if a holo is glaring.
  • If a card won’t read, take it out of its sleeve or toploader.
  • Fill the frame with the card and hold still for a moment.
How does multi-scan work?

Tap + and switch from Single to Multi. Put a pile of cards under the camera: Holofile reads the top card, and when you take it off, the next card down is read as a new one. You don’t need to tap anything between cards.

Tap Done to review. Every card is listed with its count and price, and cards marked Check need a look. Tap a card to change it or its condition, then add them all. While you’re ripping a pack, the cards are logged as that pack’s pulls.

It picked the wrong card. How do I fix it?

On the scan sheet, tap Change or one of the other matches, or use Wrong match? Search all cards to find the right one. In a multi-scan review, tap the card to change it.

Can I scan sealed product or a photo?

Sealed product can’t be scanned yet: add it with search instead. If the camera isn’t available, or you’d rather not give Holofile camera access, use Pick a photo to scan a picture of one card. To turn the camera back on, go to the iPhone’s Settings → Holofile → Camera.

Prices

Where do the prices come from?

From a third-party market data provider that tracks what cards and sealed product sell for. Each copy is valued at its own condition, or its grading company and grade. When there’s no price for a condition, Holofile estimates one from the Near Mint price and marks it with ≈.

Prices are estimates, not offers to buy or sell.

How often do prices update?

Once a day. Our servers watch for the day’s new prices and publish them as soon as they land. The app picks them up when you open it, when you come back to it, and when you pull down to refresh. Settings → Prices shows when they last updated, and the home screen tells you if they’re more than a day old.

Can I see prices in my currency?

Yes: Settings → General → Currency offers USD, JPY, EUR, GBP, CAD and AUD. English cards are priced in US dollars and Japanese cards in yen; anything else is converted with daily exchange rates and marked ≈.

Japanese cards

How do I add Japanese cards?

Go to Settings → Collection → Catalog languages and choose English and Japanese (or pick Japanese when you first set up the app). Holofile downloads the Japanese catalog, and search and scanning include Japanese cards from then on.

Why are my Japanese cards in English?

Japanese cards show their English names by default, so they’re easy to search and compare. To see them as printed, turn on Settings → Collection → Japanese names. The switch appears once Japanese cards are on.

Holo10

What do I get with Holo10?

Full price history (1Y and All-time charts), CSV export of your whole collection, Cloud sync with photo backup, and the HOLO 10 badge on your Trainer card. Everything else in Holofile is free, with no limits on cards or scans.

Holo10 is $39.99 a year or $4.99 a month, or $119.99 once for Lifetime. These are US prices; the App Store shows yours.

How does the free trial work?

The yearly plan starts with a 7-day free trial if your Apple Account hasn’t had one. Cancel at least 24 hours before it ends and you won’t be charged.

How do I cancel?

On your iPhone, open Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Holofile. Or, in Holofile, open Settings (the gear on the Trainer tab) → Holo10 → Manage subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before it renews. Holo10 keeps working until the end of the period you’ve paid for.

I bought it but it isn’t showing. How do I restore?

Open Settings → Holo10 → Restore purchases, or tap Restore at the top of the Holo10 screen. Use the same Apple Account you bought it with. Lifetime restores the same way, on any of your iPhones.

Can I get a refund?

Apple handles all App Store payments, so refunds go through Apple: request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can’t issue App Store refunds ourselves.

Account and Cloud sync

Do I need an account?

No. Everything works without one, and your collection lives on your iPhone. An account is only needed for Cloud sync; with one, your Holo10 purchase also follows you to your other devices.

How do I sign in?

Settings → Account → Sign in with email. We email you a 6-digit code (no password), and it expires after 10 minutes. No code? Check your spam folder, then wait a minute before asking for another.

How does Cloud sync work?

Turn it on in Settings → General → Cloud sync. It needs a free account and Holo10. Your copies, rips, box breaks, badges and photos stay in sync between your devices and are backed up as you go.

Signing out stops sync on that iPhone and keeps everything on it. If Holo10 ends, sync pauses: your collection stays on your phone, and your cloud copy waits for you.

Your data

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Settings → Account → Delete account, then confirm. This deletes your account, its Cloud sync copy and your backed-up photos from our servers. Your collection stays on your iPhone.

Deleting your account doesn’t cancel a Holo10 subscription: cancel that in your Apple Account’s subscriptions. To clear the phone too, use Settings → Data → Delete all data, or delete the app.

Can I import my collection from another app?

Yes, for free: Settings → Data → Import CSV. Holofile reads exports from Collectr, TCGplayer, PriceCharting, Dragon Shield, Sorted, TCG Collector and Holofile itself, and any other CSV works too: it asks which column is which. Nothing is added until you’ve reviewed the matches, and Undo import takes it all back.

Can I export my collection?

With Holo10: Settings → Data → Export CSV makes a spreadsheet with one row per copy and opens the share sheet, so you can save it to Files, mail it or AirDrop it.
